PFC Leslie Creade Hux
Leslie Creade Hux was born Dec. 10, 1913 in Chatham, a Jackson Parish town of nearly 200 in northern Louisiana. His father, Johnie Hux, was a farmer and his mother, Ara Fowler Hux, a homemaker.
The son attended Walker High School for two years. By the time of the 1940 Census, conducted in the spring, he was living at home with his parents and six siblings and working as a farm laborer. Mr. Hux enlisted in the Marines on Aug. 14, 1940.
He was a private first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
One of his brothers, Winford, served in the Army in World War II.
