Family Information Consent & Privacy Notice
By submitting information through this website to Operation 85, LLC (“Operation 85”), you voluntarily authorize Operation 85 to collect and use the information you provide for purposes related to the accounting and identification of missing crew members of the U.S.S. Arizona (BB-39). This includes contacting you regarding your U.S.S. Arizona family member, your family relationship, genealogical information, Family Reference Sample (FRS) eligibility, and other matters directly related to the accounting mission.
You also authorize Operation 85 to provide information submitted through this form to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and, when appropriate, the applicable U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps Service Casualty Office for official casualty-accounting purposes.
Operation 85 does not sell, rent, or provide your information to commercial third parties. Information submitted through this website is used solely in support of the U.S.S. Arizona accounting mission and may be shared with the appropriate U.S. Government agencies involved in that mission as described above.
Participation Is Voluntary
Submitting information to Operation 85 is entirely voluntary.
You are not required to register with Operation 85, use this website, or provide information to Operation 85 in order to communicate with the U.S. Government or participate in the official accounting and identification process.
Family members may contact the appropriate U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps Service Casualty Office directly at any time. Submission of information through Operation 85 is not a prerequisite, condition, or requirement for consideration in the identification of U.S.S. Arizona unknown crew members or for participation in any official government program.
DNA Testing and Family Reference Samples
Operation 85 does not collect, process, analyze, or conduct DNA testing.
When a Family Reference Sample or other DNA sample is determined to be appropriate, official DNA collection materials will be provided through authorized U.S. Government channels. The appropriate government agency is responsible for determining eligibility, issuing DNA collection kits, processing samples, and conducting or coordinating DNA analysis.
Operation 85 may assist families by identifying potential eligible relatives, documenting family relationships, conducting genealogical research, and facilitating communication with the appropriate government agencies, but Operation 85 does not make official eligibility, identification, or casualty-accounting determinations.
Relationship With the U.S. Government
Operation 85 is not a U.S. Government agency and does not represent itself as one.
Operation 85 is an official partner of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and works cooperatively with DPAA, the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System – Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFMES-AFDIL), the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps Service Casualty Offices, and other government organizations involved in the personnel-accounting mission.
That partnership and cooperation should not be interpreted as an endorsement of Operation 85 by the U.S. Department of War, DPAA, AFMES-AFDIL, the Department of the Navy, the U.S. Marine Corps, or any other federal agency, except to the extent expressly stated in an official agreement or communication issued by the applicable government agency.
