F1c Robert Oscar Kaiser

Robert Oscar Kaiser’s funeral was held on what would have been his 21st birthday.

Mr. Kaiser, a fireman first class on the U.S.S. Arizona, was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

He was born Jan. 6, 1921 in Missouri to Oscar Kaiser, a machinist, and Elizabeth Burger Kaiser, a German immigrant and homemaker.

The son attended St. Joseph’s School in Clayton, Missouri on the westside of metro St. Louis, and graduated in 1938 from Normandy High School in St. Louis. “Bob,” as he was called, played saxophone in the band.

He enlisted in the Navy on Aug. 11, 1939.

Mr. Kaiser’s funeral Mass was at Our Lady of the Presentation in nearby Overland, Missouri.

His younger brothers also served in the military — Eugene in the Army during World War II and Donnell in the Air Force in the 1960s.
