CSFA George Samuel Lamb

George Samuel Lamb was a shipfitter and chief petty officer on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

Mr. Lamb was survived by his widow, Almeda “Marie,” and their son, Curtis, born in 1937. The couple married in May 1933 and the family lived in Long Beach, California, next to the battleship’s home mainland port at San Pedro.

Mr. Lamb was born Dec. 12, 1907 in Webster, Florida, to Abbie Lorena Lamb and Lawrence Lamb. When he applied for enlistment, the application did not ask about his school history, but it did ask for his employment. He said he’d worked for one year, until fall 1926, as a store clerk. He enlisted on Feb. 1, 1927.

Mr. Lamb served on four ships over his career — the Texas, Antares, Vestal and Arizona.
