CEMP Raymond Dudley Maddox

Raymond Dudley Maddox was born May 28, 1910 in Owensboro in western Kentucky across the Ohio River and 30 miles upstream from Evansville, Indiana. His mother, Dorthulia Lashbrook Maddox, was a homemaker and his father, Perry Maddox, a farmer and merchant.

The father’s first wife died in 1889, a few days after the birth of their fourth child. He married Dorthulia the next year and they had about eight children.

Raymond Maddox enlisted in the Navy in June 1927. He married Margaret Lundstrom in Los Angeles in 1932.

Mr. Maddox was an electrician’s mate and chief petty officer on the U.S. S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

He was survived by his widow, an eight-year-old daughter, and a seven-year-old son. They lived in San Diego, California.
