SK2c Francis Raymond Mcguire

Francis Raymond McGuire was born Jan. 31, 1916 in Illinois, but by 1920 his family moved to Menominee in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula across from Wisconsin and along Green Bay. His father, John McGuire, was a farmer, and his mother, Minnie Kassing McGuire, a homemaker.

The family included five sons and five daughters. All five sons served in the military during World War II, and all but one survived.

Francis Raymond enlisted in the Navy on Jan. 19, 1938. He was a storekeeper and petty officer second class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

The oldest son, Harry, enlisted in the Navy in the late 1920s and eventually served throughout  World War II and the Korean War. Fred and James served in the Army. The youngest, Carl, born in 1919, enlisted in the Navy in July 1942.
