S2c Albert Wesley Pinkham
Albert Wesley Pinkham was born Sept. 1, 1921 in Beaufort County in east-central North Carolina about 35 miles inland from Pamlico Sound. His mother, Arthilla Waters Pinkham, was a homemaker and his father, Benjamin Pinkham, a laborer on a hog ranch. The couple had six children.
By 1930 the family lived at the small settlement of Long Acre near Pinetown and the father was a farmer.
Albert enlisted in the Navy on Nov. 8, 1939. He was a seaman second class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
