S2c William Peter Weidell

William Peter Weidell was born Dec. 14, 1922 in St. Paul, Minnesota. His mother, Lorinda Pluff Weidell, was a homemaker and his father, William Wenzel Weidell, a steamfitter and later a policeman at meat packing plants.

By the time of the spring 1940 Census young Mr. Weidell had completed two years of high school and was at home in St. Paul with his parents and three younger brothers.

He enlisted in the Navy on Jan. 14, 1941, and was a seaman second class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

His father was an Army corporal during World War I. At least one of William Peter’s brothers, Roger, also served in the Navy during World War II.
