S2c Alvaro Everett Vieira

Alvaro Everett Vieira was born Jan. 12, 1924 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island to Portuguese immigrants Manuel Vieira, a laborer, and Lucinda Leal Vieira, a spool tender at a mill.

Mr. Vieira, a seaman second class on the U.S.S. Arizona, had been in the Navy nine months when he died on Dec. 7, 1941 in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He was still 17.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5390 in Portsmouth was named in Mr. Vieira’s memory.
