CM1c Arthur Severin Rasmussen
Arthur Severin Rasmussen was born Feb. 8, 1902 in New York. His mother’s name was Augusta, but his father’s name isn’t clear from public records. The parents immigrated from Denmark.
The 1930 Census identified Arthur as single and a carpenter at the Navy shipyard in Philadelphia. He likely re-enlisted on Nov. 4, 1939. Mr. Rasmussen was a carpenter’s mate and petty officer first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
A Navy list of survivors said he was married to a woman named Helen and that she lived in San Diego. Augusta was listed as living in Huntington, Long Island east of Oyster Bay.
