CRMP Charles Ross Pettit

Charles Ross Pettit was born July 8, 1902 in South Bend, Indiana to James Pettit, a telegraph operator, and Laura Keltner Pettit, a homemaker.

Charles, the oldest of two children, both sons, attended Central HIgh School. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 17.

Mr. Pettit was a radioman and chief petty officer on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

He was survived by his widow, Evelyn. They were married for more than 10 years and she lived in Long Beach, California, near the Arizona’s home port of San Pedro.
