PVT David Delton Evans

David Delton Evans was born June 18, 1918 in New Orleans. His mother, Nina Mae Grantham Evans, was a homemaker, and his father, Warren Evans, a laborer at a truck farm.

The father died in March 1920, leaving the widow with three young children in St. Tammany, 50 miles north of New Orleans.

Young Mr. Evans joined the Fleet Marine Corps Reserves in New Orleans in 1935 and served until May 1940. On Oct. 11 of that year he enlisted for active duty.

He was a private on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

Mr. Evans was survived by his widow, Faye.
