S1c Fred Joseph Krause

Fred Joseph Krause was born Sept. 1, 1920 at Le Sueur in southern Minnesota. His mother, Mary Morgenthaler Krause, was a homemaker and his father, Ernest Krause, an engineer for a stationary railroad.

Fred, the 6th of eight children, completed his schooling after 9th grade at the local high school. He also worked as a handyman for a local merchant.

He enlisted in the Navy on Nov. 14, 1939. Mr. Krause was a seaman first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

A memorial service was held in February 1942 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Le Sueur.

His brothers, John and Robert, served in the Army during World War II. An uncle, Anton Morganthaler, was the first man from Le Sueur killed in World War I. He died in France in August 1918.
