SF2c Harold Hugh Scilley

Harold Hugh Scilley was born April 3, 1917 in Fromberg, Montana, a town of about 500 in the south-central part of the state southwest of Billings. His mother, Alice Nerlin Scilley, was a homemaker and his father, Hugh Scilley, a farmer and later a copper miner.

The family lived in Red Lodge about 20 miles to the southwest for several years, then in 1925 moved 160 miles west to Butte. Harold attended Butte High School, where he was a competitive swimmer. He quit in his senior year to enlist in the Navy on May 18, 1936.

Mr. Scilley was a shipfitter and petty officer second class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

His only sibling, a younger brother named James, served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
