BMKR2c Harold Richard Mathein
Harold Richard Mathein was born Oct. 20, 1919 in Illinois. His mother, Harriett Brittin Mathein, was a homemaker and his father, George Mathein, a grocery store manager. The 1930 Census said they lived in Springfield.
Richard, as he was known, enlisted in the Navy on Feb. 9, 1937. He was a boilermaker and petty officer second class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec.7, 1941.
