S1c Henry Vernon Homer

Henry Vernon Homer was born Aug. 14, 1921 at Springfield, Illinois. His mother, Katherine Hattie Graves Homer, was a homemaker and his father, Henry Homer, a coal miner.

The son graduated from Feitshans High School in Springfield, then enlisted in the Navy on Jan. 7, 1940. He was a seaman first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

A memorial service honored Mr. Homer in February 1942 at Stuart Street Christian Church. 

An older brother, James Homer, served in the Navy from June 1944 through January 1946.
