SK1c James Buchanan Jr. Reed
James Buchanan Reed Jr. was born Feb. 5, 1915 in Titus County in northeast Texas. His mother, Ethel Mason Reed, was a homemaker and his father a rancher. He was the oldest of their five children. The only other son died in infancy.
James Jr. attended school in the town of Mount Pleasant, the county seat, before enlisting in the Navy on Sept. 11, 1936. Mr. Reed was a storekeeper and petty officer first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
He was survived by his widow, Hanna Ingrid Reed, who lived in San Mateo, California south of San Francisco.
