S1c John Monroe Dority
John Monroe Dority was born Oct. 14, 1917 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Milton Henry Dority, a contractor, and Loretta Payne Dority, a homemaker.
His parents divorced in 1923, and by the time of the 1930 Census, John Monroe was living with his father in East Ely, Nevada near Utah.
He completed 11th grade by the time he enlisted in the Navy on July 26, 1940, and was a seaman first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
At least two of his brothers served in the war — Melvin in the Army and Milton in the Navy.
