S1c John Raymond Stratton
John Raymond Stratton was born Oct. 23, 1918 in Otter Creek Township in Ripley County about 70 miles southeast of Indianapolis. His mother, Amy Edens Stratton, was a homemaker and his father, Frank Stratton, a farmer. They had six children.
The mother died in 1931, just before John’s 13th birthday.
He graduated in 1937 from Holton High School and enlisted in the Navy on Oct. 8, 1940. Mr. Stratton was a seaman first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
At least two of his brothers, Frank Jr. and Grant, served in the Army during World War II.
There is a cenotaph for John Stratton at the Holton Cemetery, which is where his parents are buried.
