F2c Johnnie Cecil Broadhead
Johnnie Cecil Broadhead was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Maplesville in central Alabama. His mother, Lena Mae White Broadhead, was a homemaker and his father, William Walter Broadhead, a farmer.
J.C., as the son was known, was the youngest of three children. By the spring 1940 Census he was still at home with his parents. He completed the 11th grade at Verbena High School in Verbena.
He enlisted in the Navy on Oct. 4, 1940, and went aboard the U.S.S. Arizona on Dec. 4 while the battleship was moored at the Puget Sound Navy Yard in Washington state.
Mr. Broadhead was a fireman second class when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
