F1c Kermit Braxton Stallings

Kermit Braxton Stallings was born Dec. 14, 1919 in Johnston County in central North Carolina. His mother, Edith Creech Stallings, was a homemaker and his father, William Clem Stallings, a farmer.

The couple had nine children, including a son who was two when he died of colitis in 1924.

Kermit enlisted in the Navy on Nov. 28, 1939. Mr. Stallings was a fireman first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

At least one other brother, Willie, served in the Air Force in the late 1940s.
