Y3c Lawrence Everett Grant

Lawrence Everett Grant was born Jan. 3, 1922 in Cuba, then a town of about 700 in south-central Missouri. His mother, Hazel Sinclair Grant, was a homemaker and his father, Harry Grant, a postal worker and later a salesman for a mercantile company.

The family, which included about nine children, moved to St. Louis after 1935. Lawrence attended Roosevelt High School. He enlisted in the Navy on his 18th birthday.

Mr. Grant was a yeoman and petty officer third class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

An older brother, William, also served in the Navy in World War II.
