S2c Max Sam Krissman
Max Sam Krissman was born Feb. 12, 1924 at Chicago, Illinois. His parents, Victor Krissman and Anna Goodman Krissman, were Polish immigrants.
By 1930 the family lived in Los Angeles, where the father was a junk yard laborer and the mother a homemaker.
Max completed 10th grade before he enlisted in the Navy in June 1941 — four months after his father’s death.
Young Mr. Krissman was a seaman second class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941. He was one of the youngest men on the ship.
His body was recovered and returned to California after the war. He is buried at Home of Peace Cemetery in East Los Angeles. His mother, who died in 1955, is also buried there.
