S2c Max Valdyne Peery
Max Valdyne Peery was still 17 and had been in the Navy just six months when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
He was a seaman second class on the U.S.S. Arizona.
Mr. Peery was born Dec. 30, 1923 in Nuckolls County, Nebraska 80 southwest of Lincoln near the Kansas border to Chauncey Peery, a farmer, and Verna Lee Peery, a homemaker.
His brothers, Lawrence and Robert, also served in the Navy during World War II and survived.
