WO(ELEC) Arthur Cleon Manlove
Electrician Arthur Cleon Manlove was born March 19, 1901 at Tipton, Indiana and spent much of his childhood in Bentonville. His mother, Emma Pearce Manlove, was a homemaker and his father, Thomas Manlove, a farmer.
He attended high school for two and a half year, then enlisted in the Navy on Aug. 28, 1923. He advanced to become an electrician and warrant officer on the U.S.S. Arizona by the time he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
He belonged to the fraternal organization, the Masons.
He was survived by his widow, Glenola Mildred Deck Manlove, and sons who were about 11 and 7. She christened a destroyer escort, the U.S.S. Manlove, when it was launched in 1942 at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, California. The ship earned five battle stars during the war.
At least one of his brothers, Berl Jasper, served in the Army in World War I.
