Doyne Conley Huie was born Oct. 24, 1921 at Choctaw, Arkansas to Walter Huie, a blacksmith, and Nancy Moore Huie, a homemaker.

The family moved to Deering in far southeast Missouri some time after the 1930 Census.

The son graduated from Deering High School in 1940. He served in the Missouri National Guard, Co. B of the 140th infantry regiment at Caruthersville.

He enlisted in the Navy on July 2, 1940. He was a hospital apprentice first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

A memorial service honored him in February 1942 at the high school in Deering, population 187.

His body was found Dec. 10 and buried in Hawaii for the duration of the war. It was returned to the mainland in 1947 and buried at Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. There is a cenotaph in his honor at the Huie Cemetery in Clinton, Arkansas.
