S1c Frank Weaver Hindman
Frank Weaver Hindman was born Dec. 9, 1921 at Blue Mountain, Alabama. His mother, Minnie Walker Hindman, was a homemaker and his father, Jessie Hindman, a machinist at a twine factory.
The 1930 Census said Frank and his three siblings lived with their mother, who was divorced and worked as a private nurse. She died in January 1936 of what her obituary described as a lingering illness
By April 1940, Frank and a younger brother lived with their maternal grandparents in nearby Ohatchee. He’d completed 11th grade by the time he applied to the Navy in September 1940.
He enlisted on Oct. 5, 1940. Mr. Hindman was a seaman first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
His brothers also served in the military — Paul in the Navy from December 1942 through November 1945 and Ralph in the Army Air Force from April 1945 through November 1945.
