S1c Mancel Curtis Lane

Mancel Curtis Lane was born Oct. 26, 1921 in Neosho Falls, Kansas. His mother, Maude Leonard Lane, was a homemaker and his father, Roscoe Lane, a farmer.

By early 1930 the family had moved to Newkirk, Oklahoma a few miles south of the Kansas border. Young Mr. Lane completed 10th grade at Newkirk High School before he applied to the Navy.

He enlisted on Aug. 9, 1940 and was a seaman first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
