S1c Paul Hyatt Bridges

Paul Hyatt Bridges was born on August 30, 1922 in Greene County in northeast Arkansas. His mother, Cora Bridges Bridges, was a homemaker and his father Robert Earnest Bridges, a farmer. The family also included four daughters.

By the time of the spring 1940 Census the Bridges were still in the county and living in the town of Paragould, where Paul had completed 9th grade and was still enrolled. He attended schools in the nearby towns of Lafe and Paragould.

He enlisted in the Navy on Oct. 4, 1940, and went aboard the U.S.S. Arizona on Dec. 4. He was a seaman first class when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
