The Pearl Harbor Commemorative Medal, also known as the Pearl Harbor Survivor’s Medal, is a distinguished bronze medal established by the United States Congress on November 5, 1990. This medal honors those who bravely faced the harrowing events of December 7, 1941, during the Imperial Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

To qualify for this medal, individuals had to be members of the U.S. Armed Forces present in Hawaii on that fateful day, actively participating in combat operations against the attacking forces. This recognition extended to those killed or wounded in the attack, acknowledging their sacrifice and heroism.

In 1996, Congress expanded eligibility to include civilians who were present in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, and who engaged in combat operations, provided they could substantiate their participation. Both military and civilian applicants, including the next-of-kin of deceased eligible persons, had a 12-month window to certify their eligibility, after which the medal was no longer issued.
