PFC Quincy Eugene Jones
Quincy Eugene Jones was born Dec. 5, 1921 in Florida. His mother, Laura Everitt Jones, was a homemaker, and his father, Lloyd Jones, a railroad worker.
Quincy was little more than a year old when his mother died. The father remarried and by 1930 the family lived at Carbur, a lumber-company town in Taylor County 60 miles southeast of Tallahassee. The family was still in Taylor County in 1935.
Young Mr. Jones enlisted in the Marines on July 22, 1940. He was a private first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
Of the 1,177 Sailors and Marines killed on the battleship, his was among a small number of bodies recovered. Mr. Jones is buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at the Punchbowl in Honolulu.
