Ralph Campa was born Nov. 17, 1920 in Oakland, California. He enlisted in the Navy for six years on Jan. 23, 1941 in El Paso, Texas. He was a seaman first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that Dec. 7th.
When he enlisted, Campa was working in El Paso, Texas, for an uncle. Mr. Campa reported that he had completed the 6th grade in 1934 at a grammar school in Calexico, Calif. He said his his father was dead and from Mexico, while his mother was from New Mexico. Ralph said he was Catholic.
At the time of his death his mother, Maria Lopez Campa, lived in National City, California.
